How to Install IPTV on an Android Box or Nvidia Shield

Android TV boxes and the Nvidia Shield are among the most popular devices for IPTV because they run a full app store and deliver smooth 4K playback. Here is the complete setup, start to finish.

Android-based streaming boxes — including the Nvidia Shield, Mi Box, X96, H96 and most generic "TV box" hardware — are the easiest devices to run MYSTARR on, because they support our official app directly from the Google Play Store or as a sideloaded APK. The whole process takes about five minutes.

Before you start: make sure your box is connected to the internet (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) and that you have received your MYSTARR activation email with your username, password and portal URL.

Step 1 — Install the MYSTARR app

Two options, depending on your device:

  • From Google Play Store: open the Play Store app on your box, search for "MYSTARR Player" (or the player recommended in your activation email — usually IPTV Smarters Pro or TiviMate), and select Install.
  • Sideloading (Nvidia Shield / boxes without Play Store access): install the Downloader app from the Play Store, open it and enter the APK link provided in your activation email. Confirm the install prompt — you may need to enable "Install from unknown sources" the first time.

Step 2 — Enter your subscription details

Launch the app and choose "Login with Xtream Codes API" (or "M3U URL" if that's what you received). Enter exactly, without extra spaces:

  • Server / Portal URL — from your activation email
  • Username
  • Password

Tap Add User / Login. The app will sync your channel list, VOD library and EPG (electronic program guide) — this can take anywhere from a few seconds to two minutes on the first launch.

Step 3 — Organize your channels

Once loaded, we recommend:

  1. Go to Settings → Playlist and enable "Group channels by category" for easier navigation.
  2. Mark your most-watched channels as favorites so they appear at the top.
  3. Enable the EPG in Settings → EPG if you want a full program guide with show descriptions.

Recommended player settings for Android boxes

For the smoothest experience on Android hardware, set the video buffer to 5–10 seconds (Settings → Playback → Buffering) and select "Hardware decoding" if available — this reduces stutter significantly on lower-powered boxes.

Tip: On the Nvidia Shield specifically, enable "4K Output" in the Shield's own display settings first, otherwise 4K channels will automatically downscale to 1080p regardless of your player settings.

Troubleshooting the install

  • "Unable to connect to server": double-check the portal URL for typos, and confirm your subscription hasn't expired in your wallet dashboard.
  • App won't install from Downloader: confirm "Unknown sources" is enabled for the Downloader app specifically in Android Settings → Apps.
  • Channels load but freeze after a few seconds: see our dedicated guide on fixing buffering & freezing.
